About Mandarin PIE
We are parents and educators who believe that there is a better way of learning Mandarin than the traditional rote learning method that is prevalent today. We believe effective learning happens through PIE which stands for Play, Interest & Immersion, Engagement.
Using methods and material based on childhood developmental stages as well as an understanding of Chinese linguistics, we developed our own programme that caters to children’s different learning styles, hence we believe that everyone can learn Mandarin happily and effectively.
Established since 2017, we have learned that the fastest learning method is not always the most effective. We have also learned that too often, “translating” has been used instead of “teaching”. Our journey has led us to develop effective and enjoyable techniques and materials to help children discover the joy of learning Mandarin.
Mandarin PIE offers programmes that utilise various teaching methods and materials to suit the different needs of families and children. We have programmes for Chinese and non-Chinese speakers, as well as specially developed content for different age groups and abilities. This way, your child will join a class that is appropriate for their level and developmental stage.
Here at Mandarin PIE, we are learning Mandarin not to pass exams, but to communicate, discover an amazing culture, have fun and make new friends. Children learn according to their own pace and we always try to engage their interest. Here are Mandarin PIE, we teach Mandarin because we are passionate about education, love working with children and would like more families to experience the joy of learning Chinese in a fun and effective way.
- Play: we believe in carefully curated play activities that develop a child’s interest to learn
- Interest: Interesting activities that involve all of children’s faculties make learning a more enriching experience. Children learn through meaningful activities that enable them to personalise the content. Meanwhile repetition through various avenues build supporting structures to retain the information in the long-term memory.
- Immersion (partial and full): The immersive method is a very active learning concept. We cater this to the child’s comfort level and while it takes longer than the traditional “translate” method, it is much more effective for long-term retention and confidence in speaking Mandarin.
- Engagement: As educators, we form a team together with parents to ensure that the learning experience is optimal for the child. Hence active engagement with both children and parents is crucial to a happy and successful Mandarin learning journey.

彦妤 had no interest in Mandarin language until she joined Busy Bees about 2 years ago. The programmes structures have impressively drawn her interest toward Mandarin language. My daughter progressed very well in speaking and reading in Mandarin. thumbs up Busy Bees.
We are loving the programme and the teachers are super duper supportive. And cant wait for the next class. It is so nice to be able to learn new language and it is super fun.
